Amma’s Mince Kebabs are essentially meatballs made from minced meat and a combination of herbs and spices. Amma began making Mince Kebabs in the mid nineteen nineties- often the request from my older sisters whenever they visited. Amma usually made Mince Kebab Chutney with Roti and another one of her popular dishes- Kidney Beans Curry.
Amma’s Mince Kebab recipe was a simple one including finely chopped coriander, mint, shallots, onion and chilli combined with chilli powder, garam masala and salt. She often added egg to bind the mixture. Gram flour also works as a suitable binding agent if you are using lean mince. I prefer using full fat mince for making mince kebabs-reason for this is that the mince kebabs can cook it’s own fat rather than having additional oil. Full fat mince kebabs seem to bind together omitting the need for using egg or gram flour to help bind the meat.

Low fat mince kebabs are just as easy to make. In this instance I use lean mince meat and an extra cup of chopped coriander and mint. Use a non stick pan with lid to cook the kebabs on low heat.
How To Make Mince Kebab Chutney
4. Mince Kebabs can be cooked in a pan or in the oven. I usually cook them on a pan for 10 minutes –turning the kebabs until lightly browned on all sides- then cook fully in Tomato Chutney. Mince Kebab Chutney is best served with soft roti.
Serving Suggestion
Mince kebabs can also be served with flat bread and hummus.
